Local Missions

We desire for our members to seek the shalom of Birmingham by coming alongside our neighbors with generous gospel hospitality to forge mutually transformational relationships.

Benevolence team

Redeemer has its own benevolence team. This team seeks to provide gospel hospitality on Sundays to visitors from the community. The team meets monthly with the Local Mission Coordinator, Ben Sciacca, to learn, grow, and discuss ways that the gospel informs ministry in our city. Benevolence team members can also engage members from the neighborhood by assisting with transportation needs, groceries, and building long-term relationships.

For general information on how to get involved with our local mission partners or regarding the Benevolence Team, contact Ben Sciacca.

Serving you

Serving You is a Christ-centered organization that provides short-term help with utility bills and financial burdens. They also have a food pantry for grocery needs. They also provide chaplains to intercede for their clients in prayer and encouragement. SYM exists to resource those who are stuck in financial or food crisis with a helping hand to get them back on their feet.

ELI Thrive

At ELI, they help move people forward—one family at a time, one goal at a time. They operate within four pillars of need for the community: housing, employment, economic stability, and healthy relationships. They have found housing to be a large barrier for families to become sustainable. That is why one of their main goals is to help families find safe and affordable housing. ELI is currently undergoing a new housing initiative in the East Lake area. These new homes will be occupied by families in their program at a subsidized rate.

Oak Tree

Oak Tree Ministries serves in the Gate City Housing Projects just down the road from Redeemer Community Church. They exist to come alongside their neighbors with gospel centered and trauma-informed community development. There are several ways to plug in by tutoring children in their after-school programs, mentoring one of their youths You Lead cohorts, or coming alongside the neighbors to care for the community.

Interfaith Hospitality house

Through the Interfaith Hospitality House in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Birmingham, YWCA offers shelter and supportive services for up to seven families at a time and the assistance needed to move them out of homelessness into housing. Interfaith Hospitality House is a housing facility that provides furnished two-bedroom suites to families in housing crises and up to three meals a day. Volunteers can provide food and build relationships with the families sheltered there.

Red Mountain Grace

Thousands of patients come to Birmingham on a yearly basis seeking out this superior medical care. This creates a very urgent need for safe, affordable, and comfortable housing for those patients and their families. Red Mountain Grace exists to meet that need. Red Mountain Grace operates 19 fully furnished apartments spread out across Birmingham. Our apartments come fully furnished with everything you need from a couch to relax on, all the way to hand soap for the bathroom. While the typical hotel can cost upwards of $200 per night, Red Mountain Grace offers our apartments to our guests for just $20 per night.  Volunteers can help clean apartments and build relationships in other ways.

Avondale Elementary

This is our local neighborhood school. Avondale Elementary exists to provide the children of Avondale with a safe and quality education. The teachers and administrators there are working to nurture, educate, and encourage their students. Redeemer seeks to support the faculty and staff through relationships, food, fellowship, and encouragement. We also seek to provide supplies, clothing, and help to students in need.

Monday Night Ministry

Monday Night Ministry exists to engage young men with the love of Jesus Christ through the matrix of basketball, pizza, relationships, and intentional discipleship. There are also opportunities to provide rides for participants in the program or to experience the joys of mutually transformational relationships as a mentor or an advocate.
