Jesus Prays for You

John 17:1-26

Discussion Questions:

  1. What are some things you notice about what Jesus prays for his followers? Does anything surprise, confuse, challenge, or encourage you?

  2. Why do you think it is so important to Jesus that his followers be unified as one?

  3. What might it look like to promote unity among believers? How could you personally play a role in that?

  4. Five times throughout the passage, Jesus refers to his followers being "kept" or "guarded" by God. In your own life, how have you seen God "keep" or "guard" you? And if you cannot think of any examples, why do you think that might be?

  5. Reread John 17:15-16. Why doesn't God take us out of the world and into heaven immediately after we accept Christ?

  6. Dwight mentioned that to be "sanctified" means to be "set apart by God for a specific purpose." What purposes or motivations do you think most dictate how you live your life and how do those purposes compare with the purposes for which God chose and set you apart?

  7. Over the rest of 2026 what are some ways that you think God intends for you to play a part in his Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20)?
