Concerning This Salvation

1 Peter 1:3-13

discussion Questions:

  1. What stood out to you from 1 Peter 1:3-12 or this week's sermon?

  2. Jeff began by showing the thread running through Peter's letter. It can be summarized as: "God caused. God guards. God saves." Why is it important to remember each part of God's work in accomplishing our salvation? Is there a part you tend to overemphasize or one you tend to forget? Why do you think that is?

  3. In verse 5, Peter says we are "being guarded through faith by God's power." What is the relationship between God's power and our faith? Where are you currently relying more on your own strength than on God's power to guard your faith?

  4. Every believer is called to preach the good news of the gospel in everyday life (1 Peter 3:12). Where are you currently silent when you should be "preaching in the wild?"

  5. Can you think of a circumstance where God's promises feel harder to trust because of what is right in front of you? What helps you hold on to what is true when it doesn't match what you see? (1 Peter 1:6-9)

  6. Jeff distinguished among seeing, observing, and beholding, noting that beholding includes both our attention and affection. How can we move from merely seeing or observing to truly beholding Jesus Christ? How can we help one another behold Christ?

  7. Verse 12 tells us that even the angels long to look into the glory of the gospel! What would it look like for us to recover a sense of wonder at what God has done for us through Jesus Christ this week?
